Subaru to Develop New Diesel Engine by 2011 and Hybrid by 2012
Subaru parent, Fuji Heavy Industries, may be working on new hybrid vehicle and introduce it to the masses by 2012. They are also developing a new diesel engine that hopefully will be in production by 2011 or 2012. This should help Subaru meet more stringent environmental standards. This news has been confirmed by company president Ikuo Mori. The automaker has also mentioned that it plans to use a hybrid system developed by Toyota, its biggest shareholder. A diesel and hybrid Subaru, this could be very interesting.

I’ve been waiting for Tier2 Bin 5 Diesel for 7 years now. I’ve owned two Subarus in that time.
Driving a Mini Cooper Now …but what is my Fantasy? A sleeker looking Subaru with more head room than before AND with a Diesel/Hybrid engine.
I’ve waited for this for so long….I’ll probably be dead by the time anybody brings one to the USA. It’s a waist to put Diesel in a sedan …when Diesel gives us the torque to TOW like crazy…..come on some one please bring me my Fantasy…and don’t make it look like a Lawence Welk sedan . …or a GM square box.
This could definitely be a very exciting thing if Subaru brings it here. I am sure at some point we will se some flavor of it in US due to the gas prices and new gas mileage laws.
